- What new knowledge or skill did you learn this week?
This week I have gathered some knowledge about a program that International center use to provide the assistance that the refugees need. The program called Wilson Fish and this alternative program been there to assist the clients in their delivery of services and assistance to eligible population. The purpose of the program is to initiate the an alternative to the traditional state administered refugee assistance program through the delivery of assistance such as; employment, cash, case management, medical, ESL, and other social services. Also Mrs. Susan informed me that the Wilson Fish program is enables refuges to exit in every state where refuges are resettled. This program is very sensitive to manage and the case manager have to be trained well at so they won’t make any mistakes while filling all the important documentations.

- What knowledge or skill did you learn this week? What was your experience and activities/rotation this week?
This week I learnt about the Kentucky Transitional Assistance Program (K-TAP) program offered by the International Center for its clients. The program was set up by Kentucky to offer medicinal and monetary help to children and parents in Kentucky and preparing these families to train for potential job openings. The K-TAP program operates under the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) which grants federal assets. It is not all families in Kentucky that are stable financially to take care of their basic needs. Some are struggling to make ends meet. This are the kind of families I dealt with this week. One of the skills that I learned this week is that there is need to pay attention and communicate effectively when engaging anyone who relies on you for help. The help this people were to receive depended on the extent of my engagement with them to understand the kind of need they need most. Thus, through effective communication and paying attention, I was able to help them.
- What knowledge, either from readings or classroom discussions or conferences or other academic experiences, did you apply on the job this week? (Do not give course numbers or classes.)
Verbal Communication really helped me this week; I was motivated to do things I would not normally do towards overcoming communication barriers, which I found to be a huge part of healthcare leaders’ jobs.
3.Which courses/subjects helped you most this week? Why? Please give course numbers or topics?
Communicating the Strategic Plan and Plan Health. A strategic plan lays down the goals of an organization, the possible actions to attain the goals, and any other necessary activity. I had to revisit the strategic plan of this organization to determine the goals that were set and the strategy of attaining. This enabled me ensure that I am on the right track in achieving the set goals. Likewise, communication the Plan Health was critical given that the clients that came to the facility had various underlying health conditions. After understanding their health condition, we had to help them plan for their health accordingly for improved outcome.
4.Which courses/subjects you feel could be expanded or added that would have helped you perform your job better this week? Why?
Expanding on Principles and Methods of Health Planning would have helped me perform better at the job since it touches on leadership and how to effectively communicate. This is essential because I was after helping the families struggling financially. By understanding this course in details, I would be in a better position to help the clients understand the various methods they can use in planning their health effectively. This would lead to improved health outcome if the methods are well explained to the clients. Thus, I want to understand this course in details to enable the clients get the best out of our services when they come for help.
