Producing Data: Creating a survey (Chapter 1)
For this assignment, I want you to produce your own data by creating a survey. I would
like you to study some kind of characteristic about a population of people. You should submit a
copy of the survey (that you would handout to participants) and a two to three page paper
describing your population, why you chose it, and how you are going to conduct your survey.
Who is your intended audience? Who would want to read your study and how would it benefit
your readers.
Discuss how you would create a well-designed survey to prevent confounding and
possible lurking variables.A well designed survey should take steps to prevent and consider some
of the “bad sampling designs – voluntary and convenience response”, “cautions about sample
surveys – undercoverage, nonresponse, response bias, and wording of questions.” Be sure to
discuss the methods you implemented to prevent theses bad sampling designs.
