I think a value-centered approach would benefit all students because it increases the chance of informing students to practice good ethical values within our society. According to Ryan (1993), “schools should take a stronger role in helping the young to discover the good and learn to become individuals of good character” (para.1, Ryan 1993). Some critics reject the previous statement by saying that implementing values within the curriculum would be a “foolish game” (para.5, 21st Century Transformation ink-12). In the author’s defense, a foolish game is referred to as concentrating on values in the curriculum that may get in the way of teaching the content. I feel that in some situations, teachers may have to teach good values to inform students of behaviors that are acceptable in a classroom environment. Introducing a value-centered curriculum would be the best practice to keep the learning environment positive and free from intimidation.
